There are 4 main types of Criminal Records in Italy:

Certificato Penale del Casellario Giudiziale (Penal Certificate of Good Conduct):

Commonly known as a criminal record, it contains any past criminal judgments. It is usually required for administrative use, work, and election.

Certificato Civile del Casellario Giudiziale (Civil Certificate of Good Conduct):

It contains any past civil judgments, such as disqualification, declaration of bankruptcy, ancillary penalties entailing restrictions on the civil capacity.

Certificato Generale del Casellario Giudiziale (General Certificate of Good Conduct):

It contains all irrevocable measures of the Court regarding criminal, civil and administrative matters. It is usually required for administrative use, adoption, work, citizenship and migration (permit / residence permit), voluntary competition.

The GENERAL certificate summarizes information contained in both the Penal and Civil Certificates.

Certificato dei Carichi Pendenti (Certificate of Pending Charges):

It contains information about pending criminal proceedings. It attests any accusations, various stages of proceedings and judgments. It is required for administrative use, adoption, labor emigration.
