Types of police certificates in Italy

In Italy, there are several kinds of police certificates. The most requested formats are:

  1. Certificato Penale del Casellario GiudizialeA certificate which reports the penal conviction of a person that is registered in the Italian Judicial Records
  2. Certificato Civile del Casellario Giudiziale: A certificate that reports the civil conviction of a person that registered in the Italian Judicial Records
  3. Certificato Generale del Casellario Giudiziale: A certificate that reports general criminal conviction that is registered in the Italian Judicial Records. This certificate summarizes all irrevocable judgment of the Court regarding penal, civil, and administrative convictions. 
  4. Certificato dei Carichi Pendenti: A certificate that reports all pending charges and outstanding criminal proceedings. To request this certificate, it is necessary to be or to have been resident in Italy.

In most of the cases, for common citizenship and immigration application usage, obtaining the above-mentioned certificates n° 3 and 4 should be sufficient. These 2 certificates summarize all information that the foreign authorities might need to see.
